SUPPORT FOR EVERY STAGE OF THE ADOPTION JOURNEY

The stages of the adoption journey image of a caterpillar, a chrysalis and a butterfly emerging.

Possibilities & Intentions In the egg stage we explore your desire to become a parent and your unique perspective on adoption. We uncover hidden layers; cultural expectations, deep longings to redo your own childhood experiences, or to create joy and happiness for the next generation. We create clarity by conquering any blocks that may be in the way of having a successful adoption. Clear intention creates clear and concrete outcomes. Together we look at losses; grieving any miscarriages or failed IVF attempts. We do exercises to locate any hidden fears about the process. With confidence we turn our attention towards the endless possibilities that will manifest. You might be in this stage for 3-6 months, or longer.

Egg Stage

Caterpillar Stage

Building Resources & Taking Action Like the hungry caterpillar in this stage of metamorphosis you are taking in a lot of information. Our work is accountability, distillation, holding your intentions, and arriving at what is right for you. In this stage you are gathering data. You are attending open houses at agencies, completing your home study so you are adoption ready, meeting and speaking with attorneys. We work on casting your net wide, advertising, and adoptive profiles. As you explore the adoption landscape APS is guiding you every step of the way. Helping you share with everyone you know that you are seeking to adopt. This stage is often 3-6 months

Chrysalis Stage

Looking Inside; Inner Work What if you embraced the belief that there is a soul destined for each parent? In this stage you are conversing with potential birth mother matches. APS will teach you how to be with, listen to, and support potential birth mothers. An essential skill for a successful adoption. We work with tools to shift old limited beliefs. We explore your relationship to race, religion, and class without judgment. We make space for the feelings. With compassion and perspective we can powerfully and lovingly enter into the lives of birth mothers and families. If you are working with an agency, you are depending on others to represent you. APS supports you as you navigate the dynamics of competition. We help you move to a place of joyful collaboration. This stage has no timeframe, it’s an ongoing process.

Butterfly Stage

Taking Flight; Parenthood You are now a parent. You might feel excited and also fragile and scared. Depending on your where you've adopted from there may be a period where the birth mother can change her mind, you need support during this tender time. The birth of your baby is filled with joy and loss. The trauma of the birth mother combined with the physical intensity of the birth itself are life events for your baby and you. In this stage we learn to love and bond with your new baby. APS gives you the skills to listen to your newborn’s cries. We guide you through a period of release Through creating new neural pathways with skin to skin time and words of affirmation, we can begin to support our adopted babies to heal the trauma of loss and separation.

Begin your path to parenthood with

confidence and empowerment.

"Laura and I were on the path to becoming parents at the same time.  I was amazed at the seamlessness of her adoption process.  From ads, to her connection with birth mothers, the level of consciousness, and organization she possessed was inspiring.

She approached the adoption process with so much ease, heart and spirit, that I suggested that she make it part of her path to help others facilitate the same positive experience…"

Could not recommend her enough!!

- Basya Schechter

I have followed Laura Wolfe's work as a counselor for decades. Laura is a wise and compassionate coach and beloved parenting group leader. The adoptive parents groups she has led for my organization have offered parents on the adoption path a rare and valuable resource.

Any child would be lucky to have parents go through Laura's programs.
